Our history

EMA Finland was founded by Finnish doctors in 1989. The company initially began its operations by providing travel emergency services to customers of Finnish insurance companies.

EMA played a significant role in the 2004 rescue operation following the tsunami that struck South and Southeast Asia. At that time, EMA sent a large team to Thailand and assisted in the recovery and repatriation of many Finnish passengers who got injured in the tsunami.

In 2016, EMA merged with MedFlight Finland, further strengthening EMA’s knowledge and capacity for ambulance flights.

Pre-hospital patient transfers have been part of EMA’s services since 2019. That year, EMA acquired Uudenmaan Sairaankuljetus and a year later, the business operations of the Helsinki region’s Medical Transport. In the field of emergency medical services, EMA’s emergency responders are available around the clock, and paramedics respond to tasks received from the emergency centre.
